Stay true to yourself and the moment.

If you say things that you really believe in, you would be believed. And that is why crammed speech is not believed. Even if it is something you have written yourself. But because it is not something you believe at this moment, therefore you are not honest at this moment. You are saying what you believed in a moment before and that is now a past. That is not true for this moment. You are effective when you are doing it honestly. When you are true to that moment that all your attention is in the moment. If you say something that you don’t believe in, then your attention would be split between trying to say what you planned and at this moment. You would not sound as if you are true to the audience or the one listening. And people don’t trust someone who is not true for that moment. It is as if you are lying in order to get things from them.

To convince people we need to do two things, first, let go of the need to convince them, and second not ever try to lie to get their attention. People aren’t as stupid as one sees them. You might get their attention for now, but eventually, they will find out. And most importantly how can people believe a person who can’t even trust his own instincts for things. When you can’t even trust yourself for saying out loud what you believe and you have to have a perfect speech ready. Then how you do expect people to trust your words.

Truth is a combination of words, eyes, and gestures. It can’t simply with words. So even if you say your truth. But it is something you planned out. Then your eyes and gestures won’t support the words. It would not be as authentic as when you say your truth without planning. Surely you will make more mistakes and can lose some bit of your points. But whatever you will lose isn’t the point that you really cared about. If you had, you would have not forgotten it. It is a point you thought would be good to support your truth. And so this point is not your truth and can easily be forgotten. Your truth is something that you can overlook but not forget ever after knowing. You can not forget what you believe in even if you have never had it written anywhere. Because you embody every bit of it. Your truth is what you carry in yourself. Once you are aware of it, you cannot forget its presence. But if you aren’t aware, then you walk as far as you want without noticing it. Even if everybody would be seeing it, you wouldn’t be able to see.

For me, it's hard to say things in that very instance. Because we want to be perfectionists. But I also know that I am most effective when I am true to the moment. When I am saying something phrased at that very moment. Not only I am energetic but also creative to explain it in the best possible way.

For writers and orators, the aim is to train the mental muscle so much that it is always prepared to give a fight/speech. If we can’t be spontaneous then we are not trained properly. It is like a fighter who has to remember the moves he will play. He has to prepare and train himself such that he is always ready with his moves. Because the opponent will not wait for him to remember his moves before hitting. In the same way, the audience will not wait for us to gather the words before asking and looking for a conviction.
